Br'er Rabbit wallpaper design used as an inspiration for storytelling sessions in spring term 2011.
Having succesfully completed the first phase of the project, we have secured the funding to continue with it in 2010/11. The aim of the project is to involve children in researching stories from their cultural heritage and then work with the artists to learn how to present them orally.
The storytelling theme was changing throughout year - from exploring stories of African Caribbean, Asian and Eastern European origin to the ones inspired by Br'er Rabbit wallpaper designs at William Morris Gallery. We have also arranged a visit to Vestry House Museum and William Morris Gallery for an object handling sessions. The children learnt about the knowledge, skills and understanding of speaking and listening through reading, group discussion and presentation in front of the school assembly.
WFAEN published "It's Tale O'Clock" booklet with stories from around the world and a short film about Black History Month Storytelling which will be presented at Walthamstow BBC Big Screen.
Final presentation at Edinburgh Primary School Nov 2011.
