The Network has been commissioned by Waltham Forest Arts and Events Team to run a 3 year long programme of drama, music, dance and film making workshops at The Lammas, George Mitchell and Norlington Boys' secondary schools in Leyton.
The programme of workshops and performances for summer and autumn terms 2011 includes:
- Bollywood dance and drama workshops at George Mitchell Secondary School
- Street dance workshops at The Lammas School
- Dhol drumming and drama workshops at Norlington Boys' School
- Stilt-walking and costume-making at Leyton Sixth Form College
Workshop participants performed at Arts in the Park 15-17 July, Waltham Forest Mela on 24 July, Chingford Day Dance Festival on 31 July, Leyton Day on 11 September and at Light Up Langthorne Park Festival on 1 October 2011.
The Creating A Buzz Drama Group with representatives from Norlington Boys' School performed at the 5B Youth Drama Festival at Hoxton Hall on 2 April 2011 and will be performing in the Festival again in 2012.
The Network has also been awarded a grant of £8,400 by Big Lottery Fund to take participants of this project on a variety of trips until September 2011. Trips to date have included Bale De Rua at Sadlers' Wells, Clothes Show Live at the NEC in Birmingham, the Science Museum and a day of workshops at Street Life FM in Walthamstow.
